Reducing waste from landfill - How we are committed at all levels of the business

Over the years we have implemented a number of ways to reduce waste from landfill, from the early days on the Brook family farm, to how we farm our macadamias and encourage biodiversity, to manufacturing and even customer support.

Making small changes can collectively make a massive difference to our environment, our communities, the quality of our land and the food that we grow.

Here are some of the things we do:

Renewables

Our Byron Bay Bakehouse and head office is powered by the sun with 288 solar panels - reducing our carbon footprint and supporting renewables.

Recycling

Industry soft plastics, plastic cords, cardboard and paper are separated and bailed on site for recycling - reducing landfill waste pickups by up to 80%.

Organic Waste

Product testing or end of line stock is passed onto charities or staff lucky dips. Food waste in our facilities is captured and given to local farms to add to animal feed.

Reducing organic waste to 0 in our landfill bins, and landfill skip volume by 30%.

Green Waste

A green compost bin for staff is available to separate their organics during lunchtime and staff events. The first in Byron Bay Industrial Estate, which had a flow on effect to other businesses.   

Freight & Transport

We send our products Australia wide and globally to wholesale customers in full cartons only. This means we are not sending or passing on costs for air. 

Reducing wasted freight volume, carbon footprint and costs along the transport supply chain. 

And what has been many years in the making...

Transitioning 24 breakfast & nut pouches to Roll 'N' Recycle - with our pouches now able to be recycled in home recycling bins. 

It is our goal to maximise our packaging usability, to be redirected back into the supply chain, and recycled into other sustainable products. Read all about that here.
